​Dr. Berenshtein is a quantitative marine ecologist with 15 years of experience. He heads the Marine Ecology and Ocean Health Laboratory at the University of Haifa and is widely published in quantitative marine ecology.

He uses an innovative, multidisciplinary approach, combining quantitative methods, data science, and numerical modelling. This allows him to comprehensively evaluate environmental processes in the marine environment, including studying oil pollution dynamics and their effects on thereof. His work also assesses the socioeconomic and health impacts of pollution on the coastal communities.

Dr. Berenshtein is involved in the ongoing litigation related to the possible environmental impacts of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill on human health.
